Who may inspect and service
Every water based fire protection system must be inspected once a year by a certified contractor's representative; small home systems with two sprinklers or fewer are exempt.
License types
A water based fire protection system contractor is a business that installs, repairs, alters, adds to, maintains or inspects these systems; its employees working under its direction and official building, fire or insurance inspectors are not included.
The certificate covers wet and dry pipe sprinklers, foam water, preaction, deluge, standpipe, water spray, fire pumps, fire water storage tanks, antifreeze and circulating closed loop systems.
What the state requires
The adopted edition of NFPA 25 sets the procedures for Nebraska's annual inspections.
After the annual inspection, the contractor completes the State Fire Marshal inspection form, signed by a qualified inspector and the owner or owner's representative, keeps a copy at the system riser and sends a duplicate to the State Fire Marshal.
Each system gets its own serial number and must be tagged with a seal issued by the State Fire Marshal's Office, placed where it is easy to see.
